December 2008 - The Preferred Future of the Bay – A draft of a plan to guide decision making for marine space and use in the; South West New Brunswick Bay of Fundy will be available for public review in February 2009. The document outlines goals, objectives and actions which focus on issues brought forward during several public consultations. “This is not a plan drafted by government or by any one particular interest group or sector.  It is being developed collaboratively by everyone who wishes to participate in the ongoing process.” explained Sue Farquharson, Chair of the Marine Resources Planning Initiative. In December 2006, a Steering Committee accepted the responsibility for guiding this unique document. The process of developing this strategy was initiated and supported by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the New Brunswick Department of Fisheries and the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture and Aquaculture. The Steering Committee, who brought local knowledge and experience to the table, has guided the development of this document. “The committee tasked with building a plan for this area of the Bay of Fundy started by talking with the people who live and work in the area” added Farquharson. A Marine Planning Forum has been scheduled for February 12 and 13th 2009 to provide the opportunity for further stakeholder and community review and input to the draft plan. Members of the public are invited to visit the website: www.bofmrp.caor to contact the Chair, Susan Farquharson for information on the planning process and the upcoming Marine Planning Forum.
